This course begins with online coursework followed by an in-person assessment.
This blended USCG approved course meets the STCW mandatory minimum requirements for training and qualification of masters and officers on board ships operating in polar waters. Part 1: The online coursework is delivered through Instructure’s Canvas, a web-based learning management system which allows you to work at your own pace. Each section of the course will have an online assessment which must be passed prior to advancing to the next section. Completion of the online modules is a prerequisite for attending the assessment day; however, you may register to take the assessment at any point after starting the course. Part 2: Once the online portion is successfully completed students must report to Maine Maritime Academy to complete a required three-day practical and written final examinations. A certificate will be awarded when both portions are successfully completed. USCG Approval: This course meets the Certification requirements for Basic Polar Code Operations and satisfies the training requirement and standard of competence of Section A-V/4, table A-V/4-1, of the STCW Code as amended for Basic Polar Code Operations. This course is intended to provide the “already qualified” seafarer instruction and training in assessment techniques of competency, as well as appropriate guidance in assessment methods and practices. Student's will already possess an appropriate level of knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) of the competence he/she will be assessing of others. Each participant successfully completing this course will be able to: Apply the international and national requirements concerning the training and assessment of officers and ratings on merchant Organizevessels/platforms. Determine and verify effective assessment procedures and methods, and administer, assessments to those requiring such. USCG Approval: This course meets the training requirements of 46 CFR 10.405(a)(1) and 46 CFR 10.405(d) as well as STCW Code Section A-I/6 paragraphs 3 and 6. All assessments must be signed by a qualified assessor approved by the Coast Guard in accordance with 46 CFR 10.405. Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires persons who work with or purchase regulated refrigerants for stationary equipment to become certified through a closed book exam. The certification types are defined as follows: Type‐I: Required for servicing small appliances Candidates must pass the Core section of the exam along with one or more of the Types to earn the certification. HUET
This 1-day Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET) (non-STCW and non-OPITO) course is designed for both the swimmer and non-swimmer to practice or learn aquatic emergency response skills and maximize the chances of surviving an emergency at sea during travel over/on the water. The course includes both classroom lecture and in-water, hands-on training.

ISM
The course is to prepare potential auditors with the practical skills & techniques, dos & don'ts of the International Maritime Safety Management Systems for the certification requirements of the ISM Code. Successful completion will allow delegates to carry out the Internal, Supplier Audits by equipping them with the skills to audit ISM Code.

DPA
This course will cover communication for both internal and external parties issues that DPAs may come in contact with. It is designated in the ISM code to have a shore based representative available to vessels at all times for crisis management and/or for personnel to have for safety or human cultural issues.

Applicants who successfully complete our Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation course will satisfy the advanced fire fighting revalidation requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(h) (l) and 11.303(d); and Table A-VI/3 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010 provided he or she has been previously certified per Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010.
