MEMACE-941
This is an blended/online USCG approved course which meets the STCW mandatory minimum requirements for training and qualification of masters and officers on board ships operating in polar waters. The knowledge based information will be presented online, all sections will be followed with an online assessment which must be passed prior to advancing to the next section.
Upon successful completion of the online portion of the course the candidate must report to Maine Maritime Academy to complete the required on-site written final examination. Upon successfully completing the final examination certification will be issued.
USCG Approval:
This course meets the Certification requirements for Basic Polar Code Operations and satisfies the training requirement and standard of competence of Section A-V/4, table A-V/4-1, of the STCW Code as amended for Basic Polar Code Operations.

ERM is a total of 35 hours. The first 27 hours are self-paced online. The final 8-hours are in a one day, face to face assessment at MMA. Completion of online modules is a prerequisite for attending the assessment day. Once you have started the online modules you can request an assessment date, but be aware you MUST complete the online modules to take the assessment (we verify!) ERM is for operational engine license holders. It is a requirement under the STCW-2010 guidelines.

Completion of online modules is a prerequisite for attending the assessment day. Once you have started the online modules you can request an assessment date, but be aware you MUST complete the online modules to take the assessment (we verify!) LMS is for both deck and engine license holders who are upgrading to management level. Teamworking Skills is also incorporated into this course, so Operational level licensees can take this course and cover the components for both operational and managerial.

This course is intended to provide the “already qualified” seafarer instruction and training in assessment techniques of competency, as well as appropriate guidance in assessment methods and practices. As stated, the person(s) enrolling in this course will already possess an appropriate level of knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) of the competence he/she will be assessing of others. Each participant successfully completing this course will be able to:
Apply the international and national requirements concerning the training and assessment of officers and ratings on merchant vessels/platforms.
Determine and verify effective assessment procedures and methods.
Organize and administer, i.e. conduct, assessments to those requiring such.
Maine Maritime Academy’s Qualified Assessor course is 100% online. You must complete the course by June 30, 2019 or otherwise will have to start over on July 1, 2019.
USCG Approval:
This course meets the training requirements of 46 CFR 10.405(a)(1) and 46 CFR 10.405(d) as well as STCW Code Section A-I/6 paragraphs 3 and 6. All assessments must be signed by a qualified assessor approved by the Coast Guard in accordance with 46 CFR 10.405.
This Maine Maritime Academy Continuing Education “Qualified On-Board Assessor” On-line, e-Learning course meets the requirements of The Qualified Assessor fundamentals as outlined as a requirement in USCG NVIC 19-14.

This five (5) day course satisfies the standards of competence required for Chief Mates and Masters as defined in Part A of the STCW Code, as amended in 1995. Specifically, the course covers the Meteorology and Oceanographic Science competencies as outlined in the Navigation at the Management Level requirements of the STCW Code. The course is aimed at developing an in-depth understanding of meteorology, weather forecasting, ocean science and weather routing skills for mariners at the management level, i.e. Chief Mates and Masters.

These central learning objectives are accomplished through a combination of classroom learning and practical exercises.

This 1-day Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET) (non-STCW and non-OPITO) course is designed for both the swimmer and non-swimmer to practice or learn aquatic emergency response skills and maximize the chances of surviving an emergency at sea during travel over/on the water. This course is open to all seafarers who have previously been certified in Basic Training and are capable of meeting the physical and professional eligibility requirements for STCW certification, and have at least entry level mariner documents from USCG or a foreign flag state whose mariner credentialing organization will accept USCG documents, but do not have one year of sea time in the last five years and need to renew their endorsement for Basic Training. The course covers all the competencies of Personal Survival Techniques, Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities, Fire Fighting, and First Aid & CPR renewal.

This course covers shipboard management responsibilities, emergencies, safe working practices, fatigue management, health and hygiene, drugs and alcohol, marine environmental issues, and communication and teamwork. There is a written exam to check for theory and understanding of course material.

Applicants who successfully complete our PSSR course will satisfy the Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities training competency requirements of Section A- VI/1 and Table A- VI/1 of the STCW Code, as amended in 2010, and 46 CFR 11.302(a)(4) and 12.602(a)(4).
