Facility and vessel personnel who are assigned specific security duties in connection with either a Facility Security Plan (FSP) or Vessel Security Plan (VSP) will learn how to perform their duties in accordance with the requirements of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002, Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, and/or the IMO ISPS Code, and/or relevant U.S. Coast Guard regulations contained in 33 CFR Chapter 1 Subchapter H.
USCG Approval:
The course meets the mandatory minimum requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency in Table A-VI/6 of the STCW Code and the mandatory training requirements in 33 CFR Part 104 and 105.

4 hour, fully online course. Course Description This course will provide the knowledge required to enable personnel without designated security duties in connection with a Ship Security Plan (SSP) to enhance ship security in accordance with the requirements of Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the ISPS Code, and Section A-VI/6-1 and Table A-VI/6-1 of the STCW Code, as amended. Course Access Once you complete your registration, you will receive a confirmation email with details on how to access the online coursework. You may complete the training at your own pace but may be required to finish one module before advancing to the next. Please note: Maine Maritime Academy uses Canvas as our online learning management platform. If you have previously completed any online learning classes at MMA, you will log back in with your existing username and password and see the new class on your dashboard. Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires persons who work with or purchase regulated refrigerants for stationary equipment to become certified through a closed book exam. This course begins with online coursework followed by a 4.5 day in-person assessment. This blended USCG approved course This Chief Mate to Master course will provide students with practical theory and understanding of ship handling in various maneuvering situations encountered while navigating a vessel. Students will apply online instruction and lecture material to practical simulator exercises designed to meet the assessment standards of this course. USCG Approval: Those who successfully complete this Advanced Shiphandling (MEMACE-22) course will satisfy the training requirements detailed in the following regulatory codes and standards: 46 CFR 11.305(a)(3)(i) endorsement as master and 11.307(a)(3)(i) for STCW endorsements as chief mate on vessels of 3,000 GT or more and 46 CFR 11.311(a)(3)(i) endorsement as master and 11.313(a)(3)(i) endorsement as chief mate for STCW Code, as amended 2010, on vessels of more than 500 GT and less than 3,000 GT. This blended USCG approved course meets the STCW mandatory minimum requirements for training and qualification of masters and officers on board ships operating in polar waters. Part 1: The online coursework is delivered through Instructure’s Canvas, a web-based learning management system which allows you to work at your own pace. Each section of the course will have an online assessment which must be passed prior to advancing to the next section. Completion of the online modules is a prerequisite for attending the assessment day; however, you may register to take the assessment at any point after starting the course. Part 2: Once the online portion is successfully completed students must report to Maine Maritime Academy to complete a required three-day practical and written final examinations. A certificate will be awarded when both portions are successfully completed. Basic Training Revalidation and Advanced Fire Fighting Revalidation courses run concurrently and allows mariners to complete both courses in the same two days.
This course is open to all seafarers who have previously been certified in Basic Training and are capable of meeting the physical and professional eligibility requirements for STCW certification, and have at least entry level mariner documents from USCG or a foreign flag state whose mariner credentialing organization will accept USCG documents, and have one year of sea time in the last five years and need to renew their endorsement for Basic Training.
